Requirement/Grading

All materials, including the written text, handouts, and any information spoken in class or written on the board is expected to be reflected in your work. Take notes, and study the textbook and handouts. Quizzes are not scheduled, but may be given if students need such motivation. Keep all of the work you do during the course until after the final grades have been announced. Your final grades will be determined by the following course components:




  • Attendance, quizzes (if applicable), and participation (group performance, meeting deadlines, technical points, etc.): 20%

  • Assignments: 60% (See below for description and points)

  • Group project proposal presentation: 20%



ATTENDANCE, PUNCTUALITY & ASSIGNMENT POLICIES




  • Attendance and punctuality are requited.

  • Students who are absent for more than 1/3 of total class hours (48) without an appropriate reason and documentation will lose 30% from their final grade.

  • All required assignments must be submitted as instructed on or before the due dates.

  • Late assignments will be given a lower grade (20% for each week late) unless an extension has been requested in advance.

  • Make-up sessions for individual presentations may be held for the students with appropriate reasons but will have 10% deducted from the grade awarded. 

  • Missing a group presentation may NOT be made up.



ASSIGNMENTS




  • As a project-based course, students will create products/artifacts related to topics and skills covered in class. Some will be published online with links to individual students’ blogs.

  • Detailed information, guidelines, deadlines, and evaluation rubrics for each assignment will be provided on Moodle. Each project also includes a proposal/plan document (10 points).

    • Blog introduction: Set up blog and post brief written self-introduction (50-100 words) and image (photo, drawing, GIF, etc.) (10 points)

    • Vlog: With a partner, create a video report describing and critiquing a piece of art at an indoor or outdoor exhibition. On-campus exhibits are encouraged. (20 points) 

    • Photo story: Use still images and text to tell a story about a campus club activity or cultural event at NCCU. The final product will include 5 of the best photos with captions, and a short article (300-500 words) about the event. (25 points)

    • Social media/advertorial: Attend class field trip to a performance facility and create a report using text and visuals (class/group project) (5 points)

    • Multimedia creative cultural-ecotourism group project proposal presentation: Introduce a tourism location. Propose additional activities or events that could be held to attract more visitors and make it more culturally relevant and ecofriendly. (20 %)   

    • Event report Week 18 (After-course assignment): Attend one creative industry event and text or audio record a short report based on form provided (10 points).
