Requirement/Grading

Evaluation:

There are 4 types of assignments. Please choose one of the following 4 tracks.

For those who choose track 1: mid-term exam 50%; final exam 50%

For those who choose track 2 or track 3: mid-term report 30%;  final report: 70%

For those who choose track 4: reading notes (1)  50%; reading notes (2)    50%

Track 1: attend mid-term and final exams : take 2 written exams, 1 essay question in each exam.

You will know what the essay question is before the exam. If you choose this track, on the exam days, you need to come to the classroom and write down your answer.

Track 2: write an essay/report on (the importance of) ‘writing about …’ in your daily life (…=

one of the 12 topics listed below). If you choose this track, you need to submit a mid-term report on the progress of your work.

Track 3: write an essay/report on ‘writing about …’ in a professional career that you like

(…= one of the 12 topics listed below) If you choose this track, you need to submit a

mid-term report on the progress of your work.

Track 4: Please choose two of all literary works listed in the syllabus, read them very

carefully and take notes. The notes must show the efforts you have invested in trying

to understand those two literary works. The efforts can take any form, such as looking

up unfamiliar words in an English dictionary, recording what you learn in class and

finding and writing down what other scholars have said about your chosen literary

works . . . etc. If you choose a short poem, please finish reading the entire poem. If

you choose a long piece of literary work, such as Paradise Lost or Gulliver’s Travel,

please read a section that you find most interesting. In short, if you choose this track,

you need to submit two records proving you have tried your best to understand the two

chosen literary works respectively.

Please feel free to choose one of the 4 tacks mentioned above. Please let me know which track you wish to take by the 24th of March, 2025.
