Class participation

The course is set up as a three-hour section every week. Students are required to prepare and present a referee report, in PowerPoint format, on their assigned papers.

Referee Reports

When reading papers and preparing for referee reports, students are advised to address the following questions:

  • What is the main research question?

  • Why is this research question important?

  • Are the hypotheses or propositions well-developed and convincing?

  • Is the research design and context appropriate for testing these hypotheses?

  • What are the main findings? Are there alternative explanations for these findings?

  • What are the limitations of this research? How do these limitations inform future research directions?

Term Paper

For the term paper, students must define the research question, review the relevant literature, develop testable hypotheses, and explain the methods and data/ empirical context that may be used to test the hypotheses.

Absenteeism for more than three times will result in a failing grade.
