Requirement/Grading

Class Participation (30%)

Your participation will be an integral part of the learning experience. The discussions and worksheets will help you learn to apply the principles that you have learned in the class. Part of your grade will thus be based on your contribution to the classroom discussions and participation of in-class exercises.

Assignments (35%)

There will be assignments to help you internalize the knowledge and tools introduced in this course. For programming assignments, your codes should be self-contained and executable. While you are encouraged to help each other in solving the assignments, you should write and submit your own work.

Term Paper (35%)

You will work on a research project to investigate an issue in the field of local public finance. You will define a relevant research question, find suitable data, and conduct appropriate analysis to address the research question. You will also need to gfgthink carefully about the presentation to ensure that the audience can comprehend your analysis and the insights derived from data. In the final week of the semester, each will give an oral presentation and provide a final report delivering the complete analysis. More details will be provided later in class.

Guidline for the Use of AI Tools

  • Students may use AI tools to help debug and write code for assignments, but they must fully understand the content and logic of the program, and be fully responsible for the content and results.

  • The text, interpretation of results, and extended discussion of assignments and projects should all be written entirely by the students.
