Requirement/Grading

In-class activities (18%): Every lecture class session will have a graded component, such as quizzes on the readings, in-class writing, and small group activities, each worth 2% of your grade. Your top 9 of these will count toward your grade. This allows you room for up to two unplanned (or planned) absences, as make-ups will not be offered.

Exercise (26%): There are two exercises for this course in the form of short essays, each worth 13% of your grade. Plan ahead so you know what is required in a particular week. More details of these assignments will be discussed in class. No late assignments will be accepted.

Exams (56%): There will be two exams for this course, a midterm and a final, each worth 28% of your grade. The exams will be comprised of true/false questions, short answers, and essays. Sociological concepts build on each other and relate to one another, so although the final is not cumulative in a traditional sense, it may require students to engage in a variety of concepts we have covered throughout the semester to demonstrate a holistic understanding of sociology.
