Week 1 Introduction of the course Reading: Introduction of Public Speaking for Dummies; Introduction and Opening of Stand, Speak, Deliver Week 2 Giving and getting ready for a speech Reading: Chapter 1, 2 of Public Speaking for Dummies Week 3 Making research of the subject and organizing the speech Reading: Chapter 3, 4 of Public Speaking for Dummies Week 4 Preparing the content of the speech Reading: Chapter 5, 6, 7 of Publlic Speaking for Dummies Week 5 Making the speech sparkle Reading: Chapter 8, 9,10 of Public Speaking for Dummies Week 6 Delivering the speech Reading: Chapter 11,12,13 of Public Speaking for Dummies Week 7 Handling the audience Reading: Chapter 14 of Public Speaking for Dummies; Chapter 20 of Stand, Speak, Deliver Week 8 Checking the set-up and using humor for delivering the speech Reading: Chapter 21, 22 of Public Speaking for Dummies Week 9 : mid-term exam. Each student has to deliver a five-minute speech, the title of which will be announced two weeks before the exam. Week 10 Preparing and crafting the speech Reading: Part I and Part II of Stand, Speak, Deliver Week 11 Making the presentation Reading: Part III of Stand, Speak, Deliver Week 12 Speaking with Purpose Reading: Part IV of Stand, Speak, Deliver Week 13 Introducing a speaker Reading: Chapter 16 of Publlic Speaking for Dummies Week 14 Making a Presentation Reading: Part V of Stand, Speak, Deliver Week 15 Attending a roundtable Reading: Chapter 17 of Public Speaking for Dummies Week 16 Getting to know how to attend an international conference Reading: chapter 19 of Public Speaking for Dummies Week 17 Practicing the Model APEC Reading: APEC rules and practices Week 18 Final Exam. Each student has to play a role in an international conference setting and will be evaluated on their performance.
