Exercises




  1. The interactions and group work. Students are expected to participate in interactive activities and group work to improve their listening and speaking ability. Activities includes opinion sharing, peer feedback, impromptu speaking, theme presentations, interactive debate, role play, and project tasks.



2. Self-Learning. This course is designed to encourage autonomous learning. Through the following activities learners are expected to actively take charge of improving their communication skills.




  • Self-practice. Students are required to watch online videos (e.g. TED Talks, famous speeches, TV talk shows, news, and etc.) at home and practice the assigned work.

  • Self-evaluation notes. Students are expected to keep evaluation notes, which should accommodate the self-critique of their theme presentations, peer feedbacks, TA and the teacher’s comments, and etc.




  1. Individual Tutoring and peer feedback. Students are expected to improve their critical listening skills for specific contexts and to enhance their speaking accuracy. To reach these goals, students are required to participate in group workshops to receive peer feedback. Moreover, students should meet their native speaking TA to correct their pronunciation, stress and intonation patterns.
