Requirement/Grading

Attendance and Participation 15 %

Much of the learning in this course comes from class discussion. Your classroom participation grade will be primarily based on attendance, class preparation, familiarity with the reading materials, and the quality of your contribution.[G1] [G2]  [G3] Please note that regular attendance at lectures is compulsory in this class. The lecture will make “cold call” in class. Students who miss the class for more than 3 times may not pass this class.

Group weekly presentation 30%

Dr. Fu will team up 5- 7 students each team to maximize the diversity. Each week (from the 5th week October 14), the assigned team will prepare a PPT presentation for the chapter of the previous class. Each team needs to include at least three recent news article that fits the topic of the chapter you are presenting. For example, you might choose one news article about corporate-level strategies being undertaken by a company covered in a recent Fortune, Forbes, Business Week, The Economist, Financial Times, or Wall Street Journal article. To stimulate class participation, the presenting team is required to prepare 3 to 5 questions in advance to lead the class discussion. Moreover, each team (excluding the presenting team) need to turn in their questions in written in class.

Group Project – selected topics 25%

This group project offers you an opportunity to apply knowledge learned in class to real management

issues. In the group project, you are expected to choose one corporate event that is related to the topics we discussed in class. Each group will prepare (a) a power point slide and (b) a group presentation. Each group will have 30 minutes for your presentation in two class sessions. More details will be provided in class.

Mid-term and Final exam 30%

The mid-term and final exams are closed-book. The exams include those chapters we have covered in class.
