Requirement/Grading

Class time will be devoted to activities that allow you to practice and interact in English. To successfully complete the course, you must prepare the assigned homework prior to class and actively participate in class discussions and pair/group work. Your final grades are determined by the following course components:

  • Reading & Presentation Training (30%)

  • Attendance & Participation (20%)

  • Midterm projects (25%)

  • Final Projects (25%)

ASSIGNMENTS AND REQUIREMENTS

Reading & Presentation Training

Two primary projects based on the course readings will be assigned. You and your teammates are expected to read the assigned readings while practicing an assigned reading skill, doing extra research related to the topic of the week, and prepare relevant handouts and questions. You are required to complete the previous work at home by due dates so that you can present and lead discussions in class. You are expected to present and lead discussion concerning the assigned readings related to the topic of the week. The grading rubric for these projects will be offered in our class FB group.

Attendance & Participation

Your attendance and participation grade will be based on your attendance, homework preparation, opinion sharing in class, and the contribution you make to the learning experience of others. Contribution includes your in-class questions to the instructor, insights and comments regarding readings and class content, answers to the instructor’s questions, and reactions to other students’ contributions.

Midterm Projects

Your midterm will be closely related to two special activities, English Tour and World Café II. Your midterm grade will be based on your thorough research prior to the events, active participation in the activities, and reflective presentations followed by the experiences. The grading rubric for the presentations will be provided in class. More details about these projects will be discussed in class.

Final Projects

Your final will be well prepared and publically presented at our ETP Night. Your final grade will include the proposal or presentation outline of what you plan to present, your in-class rehearsals, and your final presentation. The grading rubric for the presentations will be provided in class. More details about these projects will be discussed in class.

*Note:

More details regarding each project will be provided in class.

No make-up exercises, quizzes, exams, and presentations/performances will be given.

The grading rubric for the speaking projects will be available on the class FB group.
