Grading Criteria
Attendance and In-class Performance Attendance/Lateness policy will be explained in the first class. Your participation grade will be based on your attendance, homework preparation, and the contribution you make to the learning experience of others. Contribution includes your questions to the instructor, insights and comments regarding class content, answers to the instructor’s questions, and reactions to other students’ contributions. Oral presentation You will give a group presentation and a book report during the semester. For the group presentation, you will be assigned a topic from units 6-10 covered in the textbook or from the cross-curricular curriculum. The length of the presentation is 20-25 minutes. Each group should discuss their topic and hand in their outline to the instructor two weeks prior to the presentation for preview. For the book report, you will complete a 6-8 minute presentation which includes key details about the book, the summary of the story and critical evaluation supported with evidence from the book. More details will be provided in class. Written assignments In addition to the periodic in-class and take-home writing exercises, there will be three written assignments based on the online learning materials for the course. In each assignment, you will respond to the writing prompts regarding a cross-cultural issue. Your papers should show you have completed and thought seriously and critically about the readings and videos provided for you. You are also encouraged to research the topic and cite your sources. The grading rubric for the written assignments is available on the class website. Midterm and Cross-Cultural Curriculum review exams There are three parts in the midterm exam which includes vocabulary fill-ins and explanations, language expressions and short questions and answers. Cross-Cultural Curriculum review exam includes 15 True/False questions and 2 open-ended questions from units 4-6 in the CCC. Watch the videos as many times as necessary to be familiar with the content before the exam.
