Activities: introduction to the components of research paper, group discussion

on the content and format of each component

Assignments: sample paper reading and analysis, outline preparation

12^th Week: Introduction to research paper writing (II)

Activities: peer edition on the paper outline, filling up details of the outline

Assignment: analyzing the introduction and the body of the sample paper,

writing introduction and one part of the body of the individual paper

13^th Week: Summary writing; Reading for main ideas

                 Activities: introduction to the principles of summary writing; practice reading for main ideas

Assignments: writing summaries on short essays, finish the body part of the individual paper

14^th Week: Summary writing; Project outline

Activities: group discussion on summary writing; text modeling,

                peer feedbacks on the summaries and the body part of the individual paper

            Assignments: analyzing the structure and main ideas of a long essay, writing a summary on the long essay,                 revise the individual paper

15^th Week: Quotation and paraphrasing; Autobiography; Presentation skill

                 Activities: introduction to various forms of quotation and paraphrasing; review presentation skills, discuss the                      essay summary on the long paper

            Assignment: identifying quotations and paraphrases in an article, practice the quotation and paraphrase skills,              revise the individual paper

16^th Week: Quotation and paraphrasing; Autobiography; Project presentation

                  Activities: group discussion and whole class modeling of term paper writing and oral presentation

Assignment: finalizing the written paper and prepare for the presentation

17^th Week: Project presentation

Activities: Oral presentation, providing comments and feedbacks

                                    Assignment: finalizing the written paper and prepare for the presentation

18^th Week: Final Exam

Course Requirements:

As well as class attendance and participation in class discussions, students are expected to spend around 6 hours previewing lesson and working on assignments.
