Brief:
James Pomfret, an award-winning journalist who worked for 20 years at the Reuters news agency in various senior roles, will share his thoughts on the challenges of reporting in Asia and Greater China at a time of growing China-U.S. geopolitical tensions and uncertainty. Drawing upon his on-the-ground reporting in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and India among other places, James will discuss the challenges faced by journalists, including those in the international media, in deciphering and explaining complex developments in a number of key areas as Xi Jinping's China vies with Donald Trump's U.S. for global supremacy. In these times of increased authoritarianism and democratic backsliding on both sides of the Pacific, how have journalists bolstered their resilience, knowledge and skill-sets to counter increased risks?
