Information about the Professor:
Jean-François Hennart (Ph.D Economics, University of Maryland) is Emeritus Professor of International Management at Tilburg University. His research focuses on the comparative study of international economic institutions such as multinational firms (MNEs) and their contractual alternatives, on modes of foreign market entry, and on equity joint ventures. He is presently working on MNEs from emerging countries, Born Globals, the internationalization of family firms, and the measurement of MNE activity.

Information about the Talk:
Is transaction cost theory still useful for international business? Lately the theory has been criticized by proponents of the resource based view and of dynamic capabilities. I will first demonstrate that these criticisms are unwarranted and are based on a misunderstanding of the theory. Next I will outline the crucial features of transaction cost theory and show how they lead to interesting predictions for global strategy, modes of foreign entry, international e-commerce, SME internationalization and Born Globals, and the relationship between multinationality and performance.
