Workshop summary:
Like it or not, AI-based Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT are now in every single university classroom. Whether we're students or teachers, we ignore these tools at our peril. Bans and detection tools are ineffective, and LLMs offer legitimate help beyond serving as an ethically questionable shortcut. In this workshop, you'll learn about the strengths and weaknesses of using LLMs as a writing and writing instruction partner.

Guiding questions for the workshop:
What situations, in and out of the classroom, are LLMs best suited for? What pitfalls should I watch out for when using an LLM? What should I do when I think someone is over relying on LLMs? How can I design assignments that limit the amount students can rely on LLMs? And more...

LLMs are an especially complicated subject for people using them to write in their non-native language. But like any other tool, they have their appropriate place. By the end of this workshop, you'll be more confident in knowing when, and when not, to consider its use in your writing and in the classroom.
